Caterpillar recently introduced several new attachments for use with its backhoes and mini excavators, including multipurpose and demolition grapples, two new vibratory place compactors, and a new cold planer attachment.

    Multitalented

Cat says its new G206 and G208 multipurpose grapples represent the first hydraulic attachment expansion for the Cat Tiltrotator lineup. They work with the TRS6 and TRS8 Tiltrotators for 4.5- to 9-tonne (5- to 10-U.S.-ton) mini hydraulic excavators. The G206 has a 14.5-kilonewton (3,260-pounds-force) maximum closing force and the G208 a 18.4-kN (4,136-lbf) closing force. The grapple arms and arm edge of each are constructed from AR450 steel, and the arm is built with high-abrasion resistance for longer wear under extreme conditions.

The G308 demolition and sorting grapple has vertical perforated shelves that Cat says provide high wear resistance, positive penetration, good load visibility, and easy positioning. (Photo courtesy of Caterpillar.)

    Let The Demolition Begin

The new G306 and G308 are designed for use in waste, recycling, and heavy-duty material-handling applications when accurate material placement is a must. The G306 works with 4.5- to 5.4-t (6-U.S.-t) mini hydraulic excavators and has a 237-litre (0.31-cubic-yard) material capacity. The G308 works with 6.4-t (7-U.S.-t) to 9-t mini hydraulic excavators and has a material capacity of 161 L (0.21 cu y). Both have a slim design that lets them squeeze into tight spaces and 360-degree bidirectional rotation functionality.

    Compactor Relaunch

Cat has added the CVP28 and CVP55 to its vibratory plate compactor lineup and relaunched the CVP16 and CVP40 with new design enhancements. All have heavy-duty frames and are performance-matched to Cat backhoe loaders and excavators ranging from the 302.7 to 313 models. The attachments are designed to compact soil, sand, gravel, and asphalt, and customers can equip them with a backfill blade and a swivel mount that rotates 90 degrees in each direction. Compaction widths range from 305 to 660 millimetres (12 to 26 inches), compact areas from 0.19 to 0.53 sq metres (2 to 5.7 square ft), and vibration frequencies from 2,000 to 2,400 vibrations per minute (33.3 to 40 Hz).

The PC35 cold planer, designed to work with side-shift loader backhoes and 4.5- to 5.4-tonne mini excavators, has a heavy-duty gear motor that Cat says delivers high torque and efficiency across the speed range. (Photo courtesy of Caterpillar.)

    Planers For Paving

New to the Cat Cold Planers family are the PC35, which has a 350-mm (13.8-in.) working width and 120-mm (5-in.) maximum milling depth, and the PC45, which replaces the PC404 and has a 450-mm (17.7-in.) cutting width and a 150-mm (6-in.) cutting depth. The PC35 works with side-shift backhoe loaders and 4.5- to 5.4-t mini hydraulic excavators; the PC45 is built for use with backhoe loaders and 6.4- to 9-t mini hydraulic excavators. Both are well-suited for paving jobs in residential and commercial environments, including milling imperfections prior to resurfacing and removing deteriorated pavement and traffic lane stripes. Each has a cut depth indicator for quickly viewing the set depth, a pressure gauge to assist with adjusting ground speed, and manually milling depth adjustment. The attachments reuse existing hammer lines and include drum centre and width indicators for easier operation.
