Multiple Developments In Construction With Two Potain MCT 88 Tower Cranes

Jones Homes constructs more than 600 luxury new properties a year, and some of the latest developments in progress are being built with the help of two Potain MCT 88 topless city cranes located in developments in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and Last Drop Village near Bolton.

“It lends itself perfectly to the transportation of bricks, blocks and roof trusses, whereas normally we would have forklifts and other such vehicles lifting materials onto the scaffold," says Chris Lord, divisional development director at Jones Homes North West. “It’s much more efficient, productive, and safer when you don’t have those machines buzzing about the site where people are working—and safety is key.”

From Hotels & Homes To Gated Communities

Jones Homes’ first MCT 88 began work around 18 months ago at the Last Drop Village Hotel & Spa in Bromley Cross near Bolton. The crane’s quiet operation is critical to the jobsite.

“It’s fairly light work for the size of the crane, but the important thing is to be able to do it safely and quietly,” Lord explains. “The sound of the crane moving is silent compared to a forklift reversing when we have hotel guests nearby.”

Based on the success of the initial Potain MCT 88, Jones Homes was confident enough to invest in a second unit. At the Sanctuary development in Wilmslow, the crane’s remote control feature lets the crane operator more easily move around the site and cooperate with crew on the ground.

    More About The MCT 88

The largest model in Potain’s city topless series, the MCT 88 can lift up to 5 tonnes (5.5 U.S. tons) and features a lift radius of 52 metres (170.6 feet). For quick installation on urban jobsites, Potain designs the crane with minimal componentry, while still making it adaptable to the worksite. Jones Homes, for example, erected the Potain MCT 88 to a 23-m (75-ft) height under hook with a 42-m (137-ft) jib on a cross base with 35 tonnes (38.5 U.S. tons) of base counterweight.
